AI-Assited Diagonostics for Anemia:
A Novel Approach to Decentralize and Streamline Blood Smear Analysis for Anmeia Mukt Bharat
The project is laid out as follows:
Objective
We are developing an AI and machine learning-based software that aids in the diagnosis of anemia, aiming to alleviate the burden on labs and pathologists in India, thereby aligning with the ‘Anemia Mukt Bharat’ initiative.
Methodology
Data Collection
We are collecting blood smear scans from patients across diverse regions of India, especially remote areas. These scans are then sent to our centralized lab for analysis.
Human Analysis and AI Learning
Our experienced pathologists and scientists at Anemia Plus are examining the blood smears and providing their diagnoses. This information is shared with our AI software to train it on recognizing patterns and abnormalities in blood cells, correlating it with specific types of anemia.
Continuous Learning
and Improvement
The AI software, equipped with image recognition and machine learning capabilities, is continually learning and improving its diagnostic accuracy over time by continuously integrating new data.
Validation
We are regularly validating the performance of the AI software by comparing its diagnostic predictions with those of our human pathologists.
Expected Outcome
We expect that the AI software will accurately diagnose different types of anemia from blood smear scans, thereby accelerating diagnosis, improving treatment strategies, and contributing to the broader mission of ‘Anemia Mukt Bharat’. This approach will also democratize access to quality healthcare, particularly in remote regions.
Significance
This project aims to improve the speed and accuracy of anemia diagnosis and reduce the workload on healthcare professionals. In the long run, this initiative has the potential to be a significant step in improving the overall health landscape of India and achieving the goal of an anemia-free nation.
